Anti-theft or stolen vehicle detection

Vehicle theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world, as thieves already have very advanced tools, such as signal jammers. By shielding GPS and GSM networks, criminals seek to disrupt and impede the operation of tracking devices, data collection and transmission. However, many of the modern tracking devices have capabilities and features that can detect such interventions and help prevent theft or locate the stolen vehicle.

The situation

Thieves are very organized and can steal a vehicle in a matter of seconds. For criminals, this is a low-risk way of obtaining property because the police cannot detect more than half of such crimes. According to Interpol, the illicit trade in vehicles is estimated to generate $ 19 billion in criminal income a year, and that number is growing.

Thieves, of course, primarily choose vehicles that can be stolen as easy targets, quickly and without attracting attention. In case of stealing a vehicle, the speed of escape is extremely important - for example, it is worth trying to prepare in advance in this area, to do something.

Solution

A solution may be to install a tracking device in a vehicle that:

  • prevents the vehicle from starting (ignition inhibition), or
  • allows the vehicle to be stopped remotely, or
  • sends alert and trace data to the owner during events.

Anything that forces thieves to spend more time carrying out the theft makes the vehicle a much less attractive target. This is the most effective way to prevent car theft and make criminals look for other targets.

The Teltonika FMB920 tracking device is a small device that can be easily hidden in the vehicle. Thieves, of course, try to find, turn off, or get rid of the trackers. However, finding a well-hidden device can take a disproportionate amount of time, while thieves can’t even be sure it exists at all.

Thanks to the Teltonika FMB920 interference suppression system, for example, when a GSM network interference is detected, the relay can initiate one of the following actions:

  • you can enable the alarm system,
  • you can block the vehicle starter or
  • you can close all the doors of the vehicle.

Alarm system - start signal
Vehicles may have different conventional alarm systems, but professional thieves know how to disable them. With the interference detection function, the Teltonika device can help prevent thefts by, for example, diverting the attention of criminals with an additional alarm connected to the tracker.

Vehicle start - blocking option
When an attempted theft is detected, the device may block the vehicle's starter, thus eliminating the possibility of starting the engine.

Central locking system - lock all vehicle doors
When all vehicle doors are locked, thieves need more time to get in or out of the vehicle.

In addition to the above, the FMB920 tracking device has features that are extremely useful in recovering a stolen vehicle. Such as e.g. 128 MB of internal memory, which allows large amounts of data to be collected, stored and transmitted when the device is reconnected to the GSM network. High power antennas are sensitive enough to receive or transmit a signal even in poor conditions.
