Geocode, geocoding

A geocode is an identifier of an area or area-dependent object, possibly a group of objects, that allows the relationship between the areas or objects and the property values ​​associated with them.

Its use makes it possible, among other things, to link different databases. In Hungary, a regulation regulates the form of geocode production.

21/1986. (XII. 28.) MÉM decree

§ 3. (1) A geodetic identifier (hereinafter: geocode) is a data indicating the geographical (spatial) position of objects and also expressing their main nature, which must be used as a uniform and authentic identifier in the data files in order to connect and utilize different data sets.

Additional definitions

Coordinate point for determining the spatial position of an object. Geographical identifier. Code assigned to each object or group of objects that clearly identifies the nature and geographic location of the object.

Structure

The geocode consists of two mandatory and one optional field. The first two-character field is the object's character code. The second field consists of 12 characters, the first six characters are the y of the point in question, the second six characters are the x coordinates of the point in question in meters. Both the first and second fields are required. The third field is optional and consists of four characters and is intended to specify the height of the point in question.

Geocoding

Naming the location of a point (coordinate), determining its address. Geocoding is the process of assigning a spatial coordinate to a natural address so that we can display it on a map.
